Katie’s Notepad: June 14, 2023
I am starting to put together some quick thoughts each week with two goals: I want to write more and I want to connect with my people by sharing compelling finds, news, and happenings. I’ll be trying out Katie’s Notepad this summer. Be sure to let me know if anything I post is helpful to you!
Favorite Sunscreen Finds: I’ve used Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 on my face for years. It’s invisible and feels like nothing, which makes me more likely to wear it on a daily basis. Coppertone Kids Roll-on Mineral Sunscreen has been a win in our house with the kids. A few things I love: less waste due to the rolling application design, the blue color let’s us know where to rub it in and where we’ve missed spots, it travels well in backpacks and beach bags — no spilling or leaking! It’s peak UV rays season, so be sure to protect yourself and your loved ones.
The Case for Multiples: I read an article recently about owning multiples of clothing you love. Two summer staples for me are these scalloped shorts (now less than $20 a pair!) and this long sleeve cotton gauze shirt. I own both items in many colors and often pair them together! Both fit true to size and make me feel put together.
New Partnership: I’m excited to announce a new client — Athelo Health! Athelo is building an app for women undergoing cancer treatment which includes biometric monitoring and evidence-based information. I’ll be their Clinical Content Strategy Lead — advising and helping with everything from their in-app information, management system for articles, and refreshing their web presence and storytelling. I’m so impressed by their founders, Jessica and Monica, and can’t wait to see where we go!
Maternal Health In The News: US. Olympian Torie Bowie died during childbirth this week. This shouldn’t happen in the United States, and yet we continue to have abysmal maternal health outcomes due to racism, bias, a lack of national maternity leave. Torie’s story is heartwrenching and we need to do better in the US to reduce our infant and maternal mortality rates.
Ted Lasso: I’m still not over the end of Ted Lasso. A friend of mine referred to it as Sesame Street for Adults, and he’s not wrong. I continue to be amazed and how well the show tackled difficult mental health and human relationship issues in such a poignant and heartwarming matter that would appeal to all adult audiences.
That’s a wrap on the first note!
