Katie’s Notebook: June 21, 2023
Greetings, friends! Thank you to everyone who took a moment to respond positively to my last post. “Words of affirmation” is my top love language; I appreciate all notes cheering me on. Without further adieu…here are my notes for the week:
The Best Carry-on Suitcase: Remember how I talked about multiples last week? I’ve bought this suitcase off of Amazon FOUR TIMES, both for my family and as a gift. The 360 spinner wheels are clutch when rolling through the airport, and it’s held up through multiple smushes into the overhead bin. Because this is a popular item, I use these luggage tags to set ours apart. Reasons why they are awesome: durability, metal wire attachment, covers up your personal information, highly identifiable. Also make great stocking stuffers.
What I’m Listening To: I’ve been binging Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She interviews famous women over 75 who share their life’s stories, wisdom, and humor. It’s truly a gem. I really enjoyed the interview with one of my favorite authors, Isabel Allende.
Time to Check Your Calendar: I took 5 minutes this week to make sure I had my next dentist appointment and well woman exam scheduled. (Spoiler! I needed to set up a visit for the GYN.) Make sure you are staying on top of your preventive care. PS- This new speculum design looks like a much better patient and provider experience for Pap smears.
The Other Side: My grandma just passed away, and my family found this beautiful quote among her things. What a lovely way to imagine dying: “I am standing on the seashore. A ships spreads her sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. I stand watching her until she fades on the horizon. Someone at my side says, “She is gone.” Just at the moment when someone says, “She is gone” there are other who are watching her coming. Other voices take up the glad shout, “HERE SHE COMES.” And that is dying.” - Henry Scott Holland
Fraud in Telehealth!?: I’ve seen a few health tech company mergers and acquisitions that have surprised me, usually because I thought products had enough traction for the companies to exist on their own. However, the scandal surrounding The Pill Club made my jaw drop.
That’s it for this week! Let me know what you enjoyed!
xo,
Katie
